Bishop Andrewes' Church

Bishop Andrewes' Church was built in 1932 and is also a distinctive design! It is tucked away in the residential part of the estate in Wigmore Rd, not far from The Circle shops and just behind Carshalton Boys Sports College. The congregation at Bishop Andrewes' is a mixture of those who have worshipped here for years in a traditional style, and those who have more recently joined. This is reflected in our service style, which aim to blend the best of the traditional structured worship and well-known hymns with an informal style appropriate for our growing number of young families and children, alongside a creche and Sunday School (called BA Kids).

Rather strangely named, this church is the only one in the country named after Bishop Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626), who was Bishop of Chichester, Ely and Winchester (which then covered this area) and well-known for being one of the translators of the Authorized Version of the Bible under the authority of King James - which became known as the King James Version. 2011 was the 400th anniversary of this translation, and you can find out more by looking at the BibleFresh site.
